Our Story

In the winter break of 2021, then 12-year-old Ahan Dasgupta, accompanied his parents to a Dokra village near his hometown of Jamshedpur. The scene that awaited him was both heart-wrenching and eye-opening – artisans dwelling in abysmal poverty, still engaging in the barter system to make ends meet. Ahan couldn’t believe that in this era of technological marvels, these craftsmen were still being exploited by middlemen. The revelation hit harder when he discovered that Dokra artifacts was being sold in international markets at a staggering 10 times its local value. It was then that the idea of Meri Mitti was born.

The venture took its official form in the early months of 2022, with a determination to disrupt the status quo and champion a fairer, more equitable world.

Meri Mitti became a United Nations Partner in 2024. We have also been recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India.
